Authenticated message disclosure via missing room authorization
Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated May 22, 2025
Information disclosure in Rocket.Chat before 5.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to read private channel and direct messages. The getUserMentionsByChannel Meteor server method returns messages for a supplied room without checking whether the requester can access that room. A valid account and a room identifier are required; successful calls expose message contents without enabling modification or service interruption.
