Request smuggling via multiline Transfer-Encoding parsing
Published Jul 14, 2022 · Updated Apr 30, 2025
HTTP request smuggling in Node.js 14 before 14.20.1, 16 before 16.17.1, and 18 before 18.9.1 allows remote attackers to desynchronize requests. The llhttp parser accepts a folded continuation in Transfer-Encoding but fails to incorporate its identity token, so an intermediary and Node.js disagree on request boundaries. Exploitation requires Node.js behind an intermediary that parses the crafted header differently, enabling injection of a request into another connection.
