Unauthenticated request smuggling via Transfer-Encoding parsing
Published Jul 14, 2022 · Updated Apr 30, 2025
HTTP request smuggling in Node.js before 14.20.1, 16.17.1, and 18.9.1 allows remote attackers to desynchronize proxied traffic. When the HTTP module acts as a proxy, llhttp treats an obs-folded Transfer-Encoding value as chunked but forwards a folded, invalid value downstream. No authentication is required, but exploitation requires a Node.js proxy and a downstream server that interprets the malformed request differently.
