CVE-2022-32208Network attack vector

Data injection via ignored Kerberos verification failure

Published Jul 7, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025

Improper message verification in curl 7.16.4 through 7.83.1 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to inject data into FTP clients. In lib/krb5.c, krb5_decode returns an error after gss_unwrap rejects a protected message, but read_data treated that signed result as a data size and continued instead of failing the transfer. The attack requires FTP secured by Kerberos and an on-path attacker; affected clients accept attacker-controlled bytes prefixed by a five-byte error marker.
