Administrator-level stored XSS via unescaped settings
Published Oct 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in Advanced Comment Form before 1.2.1 allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through plugin settings. The settings form stores the text-before-form value without sanitization, and the plugin renders that value without output escaping. Administrator privileges are required; the script executes in the site origin when an affected comment form is viewed, even when unfiltered_html is disabled.
