CVE-2022-32156Network attack vector

CLI traffic interception via disabled certificate validation

Published Jun 14, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper certificate validation in Splunk Enterprise and Universal Forwarder before 9.0 allows attackers to intercept CLI connections. The CLI leaves cliVerifyServerName disabled by default and accepts a remote splunkd certificate without matching its identity. Exploitation requires a man-in-the-middle position and nondefault TLS certificates, exposing CLI traffic to reading or modification.
