Peer impersonation via disabled TLS certificate validation
Published Jun 15, 2022 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Improper certificate validation in Splunk Enterprise before 9.0 and Splunk Cloud Platform before 8.2.2203 allows attackers to impersonate peers. Splunk-to-Splunk clients did not reject invalid peer certificates by default when certificate and hostname validation settings were disabled. Exposure requires TLS-protected peer communications with validation misconfigured; adding an invalid peer directly requires administrator access.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
