Data interception and modification via unvalidated certificates

Improper certificate validation in Splunk Enterprise before 9.0 and Splunk Cloud Platform before 8.2.2203 allows remote attackers to intercept or modify HTTPS data. The bundled Python httplib and urllib clients omit CA-store validation of server certificates by default, accepting connections without establishing server trust. Exploitation requires a position capable of impersonating the remote endpoint; apps and add-ons that supply their own HTTP libraries are outside this behavior.
