Unauthenticated code execution via wrapped XML-RPC length
Published Sep 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Integer overflow in WatchGuard Fireware OS 12.0 through 12.8 allows remote attackers to execute code via exposed management ports. The wgagent XML-RPC parser increments a signed value length after realloc() fails, then passes the wrapped negative offset to memcpy(), writing before the heap buffer. The pre-authentication login endpoint is reachable when management ports are exposed; exploitation runs code as the unprivileged wgagent account.
