Unauthenticated code execution via exposed Thrift commands
Published Jan 25, 2023 · Updated Apr 2, 2025
Broken access control in VMware Aria Operations for Logs 8.10.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject files for code execution. The Thrift server accepts unauthenticated requestCommand RPCs, exposing remotePakDownloadCommand, pakUpgradeCommand, and other administrative operations. Network access to the appliance's Thrift ports is required, and the public code-execution demonstration chains the exposed commands with file-handling flaws.
