CVE-2022-31643

Undetected BIOS setting tampering via omitted PCR1 measurements

Published Apr 28, 2023 · Updated Jan 30, 2025

Improper PCR measurement in HP PC BIOS allows local users to modify certain BIOS settings without the changes being detected. The firmware omits those settings from Platform Configuration Register 1 measurements, so their modification does not alter the recorded value. Exploitation requires local access; HP scores no prior privileges, while NVD and CISA assess low privileges, and the consequence is BIOS-setting integrity loss.
