CVE-2022-31629Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Cookie integrity bypass via name normalization

Published Sep 28, 2022 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

PHP before 7.4.31, 8.0.24, and 8.1.11 improperly validates cookie names, allowing remote attackers to spoof protected cookies. PHP converts spaces, dots, and opening brackets in incoming cookie names to underscores when building $_COOKIE, so names such as ..Host-x become __Host-x. Exploitation requires a network or same-site attacker to set a normal cookie in a victim's browser and a PHP application that relies on __Host- or __Secure- semantics, enabling protected-cookie integrity or CSRF defenses to be bypassed.
