CVE-2022-3157Network attack vector

Denial of service via malformed CIP request

Published Dec 16, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025

Improper input validation in Rockwell Automation controllers versions 20 through 33 allows remote attackers to interrupt service via malformed CIP requests. The controller's CIP request parser accepts malformed input that drives a major non-recoverable fault and leaves the device unavailable. No authentication or user interaction is required, and the consequence is controller availability loss rather than data disclosure or modification.
