Arbitrary file read via unsafe Flask send_file
Published Jul 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Absolute path traversal in Golem through 2016-05-17 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via crafted download paths. A Flask file-serving route passes an attacker-controlled path directly to send_file, which treats path arguments as trusted without confining access to an intended directory. Network access to the route is sufficient, while readable content remains limited by the service process's filesystem permissions.
