Unauthenticated file disclosure via absolute path traversal
Published Jul 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Absolute path traversal in dainst Cilantro 0.0.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to read arbitrary server files via HTTP requests. In service/staging/staging_controller.py, an attacker-controlled path passes through os.path.join, where an absolute value discards the intended base directory before send_file returns the resulting file. No authentication or user interaction is required; consequences are bounded to file disclosure and low-impact service interruption from repeated large-file requests.
