Arbitrary file read via unsafe send_file call
Published Jul 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Absolute path traversal in Simple-RAT before 2022-05-03 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary server files through the download endpoint. The download route in Server/RAT_server.py passes the attacker-controlled name parameter directly to Flask send_file without restricting it to an intended directory. Unauthenticated network access to that route is sufficient to disclose application configuration, credentials, or other readable host files.
