Remote code execution via firmware update buffer overflow

Buffer overflow in HID Mercury Intelligent Controllers firmware before 1.302 for LP models and 1.296 for EP models allows remote attackers to execute code through a crafted update file. The firmware update parser copies attacker-controlled data without adequate bounds checking, letting overflowed bytes redirect normal execution. An unauthenticated network attacker can then monitor communications, alter relays or configuration files, or destabilize the controller.
