CVE-2022-31249Network attack vector

Host command execution via unsafe Git arguments

Published Feb 7, 2023 · Updated Mar 25, 2025

OS command injection in Rancher Wrangler through 1.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands on the underlying host. Git.Clone, Git.LsRemote, Git.Update, and related Git-package methods pass attacker-controlled branch, URL, and revision values to Git without option terminators, while the credential helper embeds an unquoted password in a shell command. Exploitation requires authenticated network access and crafted values that reach an affected Git operation; injected commands run with the Rancher host or container process privileges.
