Domain-admin takeover via Sync Job command injection
Published May 20, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Command injection in mailcow before 2022-05d allows remote authenticated users to execute OS commands through Sync Jobs. The Sync Job custom-parameters field passes uppercase --PIPEMESS together with --debug to imapsync, whose case-insensitive option handling executes attacker-supplied shell text. A valid mailcow user must create an active Sync Job; the scheduled command runs in the container and can expose database credentials, create accounts or API keys, and escalate to domain-admin control.
