CVE-2022-31218

SYSTEM code execution via installer link following

Published Jun 15, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Link following in ABB Drive Composer installer repair functions allows local users to write arbitrary files with SYSTEM privileges. The repair functions grant unnecessary installation-folder permissions and accept replaced installer files, enabling link redirection to a nonexistent destination anywhere on the file system. Low-privileged local access is required; successful exploitation enables arbitrary code execution as SYSTEM and control of the affected node.
