SYSTEM code execution via installer repair symlink
Published Jun 15, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Link following in ABB Automation Builder, Drive Composer, and Mint WorkBench allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM during repair. The installer repair operation follows an attacker-created symbolic link and writes attacker-controlled content to any nonexistent filesystem path. Low-privileged code execution on an affected host is required; successful exploitation permits control of the system node.
