CVE-2022-31213Public exploit

Broker crash via unchecked empty XML elements

Published Jul 17, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

NULL pointer dereference in dbus-broker before 31 allows attackers to crash the broker via a malformed XML configuration file. The Expat-backed parser accepts empty limit or servicedir elements, leaves their text value null, and config_parser_end_fn passes that null value to conversion or duplication routines. Exploitation requires control over a configuration file consumed at startup or reload; published sources identify no direct remote submission path.
