Arbitrary file write via unchecked upload paths
Published Aug 1, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Path traversal in DSpace JSPUI 4.0 through 5.10 and 6.0 through 6.3 allows remote authenticated users to write server-side files. SubmissionController and FileUploadRequest append attacker-controlled upload identifiers, chunk numbers, and filenames to the temporary directory without validating the resulting canonical paths. Submitter rights to at least one Collection are required, and writes are limited to locations writable by the Tomcat/DSpace account.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=>= 4.0, < 5.11
