CVE-2022-31179Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Argument truncation via unescaped line feed

Published Aug 1, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025

Code injection in Eric Cornelissen Shescape before 1.5.8 allows remote attackers to truncate cmd.exe arguments with a line feed on Windows. The Windows CMD escape and quote paths fail to neutralize LF, so cmd.exe discards every command argument after attacker-controlled input. Reachability requires a consuming application to pass that input through a Shescape API into cmd.exe, and the resulting argument loss can change the command's intended behavior.
