System crash via unchecked timestamp allocation
Published Dec 14, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux Kernel 5.16-rc6 allows local users to crash the system through the Meson video decoder. The amvdec_add_ts function fails to check whether kzalloc returned NULL before writing timestamp fields and linking the allocation into the session list. Exposure requires the Meson video-decoder driver and local low-privileged access; successful exploitation crashes the kernel rather than altering or disclosing data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
