Editor-to-administrator escalation via stored alerting XSS
Published Jul 15, 2022 · Updated Jan 28, 2026
Stored XSS in affected Grafana 8.x and 9.x releases allows remote authenticated users to gain administrator access through Unified Alerting. Grafana Labs has not published the exact input field, rendering sink, or missing neutralization step; the disclosed flow stores attacker-controlled content that executes after an administrator follows a crafted link. The attacker needs Editor access, Grafana Alerting must be enabled, and an authenticated administrator must follow the link; successful exploitation changes the attacker's role to Administrator.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=>= 8.0.0, < 8.3.10
- Affected versionversion=>= 8.4.0, < 8.4.10
