Message disclosure via missing channel access check
Published Jun 21, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Improper access control in Discourse Chat before 0.4 allows remote authenticated users to read messages from inaccessible channels. The chat message lookup endpoint retrieves a message by attacker-supplied ID without verifying that the requester can access its channel. Exploitation requires a valid account and knowledge of the target message ID, and it discloses message content, primarily from direct-message channels.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
