Kernel crash via unchecked allocation failure
Published Dec 14, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
NULL pointer dereference in the AMD KFD CRAT parser in Linux Kernel through 5.16-rc6 allows local users to crash the kernel. kfd_parse_subtype_iolink dereferences props2 after kmemdup without checking whether the allocation returned NULL. Triggering the path requires local low-privileged access and an allocation failure while KFD parses AMD GPU topology, and the bounded consequence is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=Linux 5.17-rc6

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
