Browser script execution via unsanitized chat username
Published Jun 27, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Stored XSS in BigBlueButton before 2.4.8 allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript in a participant's browser via private chat. The HTML5 client's chat alert rendering inserted a sender's crafted display name through innerHTML-style sinks without neutralizing executable markup. Exploitation requires a meeting with private chat enabled and a victim who receives the attacker's message; script runs in the victim's BigBlueButton origin.
