System crash via unchecked statistics allocation
Published Dec 14, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel through 5.16-rc6 allows local users to crash the system through the Solarflare ef100 statistics path. The ef100_update_stats function passes a failed kmalloc result to efx_nic_copy_stats and efx_nic_update_stats instead of returning before either use. Low-privilege local access is required, and the documented consequence is availability loss rather than data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
