CVE-2022-31022Network attack vector

Filesystem deletion via unauthenticated REST handlers

Published Jun 1, 2022 · Updated May 8, 2025

Missing access control in Bleve before 2.5.0 allows remote attackers to create indexes or recursively delete writable directories. The bleve/http CreateIndexHandler accepts an attacker-chosen index path and creates its directory structure, while DeleteIndexHandler recursively removes the supplied path without authentication or authorization. Exposure requires an application to register the demonstration REST handlers without separate access controls; deletion is limited to directories writable by the service account.
