Remote service crash via terminal percent sign
Published May 31, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Out-of-bounds reads in FreeSWITCH Sofia-SIP before 1.13.8 allow remote attackers to crash SIP applications with a crafted message. The url_canonize2 and url_canonize3 functions read the two expected hexadecimal bytes after a terminal percent sign without first checking that the first byte exists. No authentication or user interaction is required; parsing the malformed SIP URL can terminate the consuming process and interrupt its service.
