Resource exhaustion in BIND 9 allows remote authenticated users to crash named by flooding dynamic DNS UPDATE requests. The server allocates memory before checking update ACLs and retains it while processing requests whose client credentials are accepted. The practical gate is permission to make dynamic zone changes; sustained traffic can consume available memory and terminate the DNS service.
