Authenticated command execution via unescaped Git remote
Published May 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Command injection in Gitea before 1.16.7 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands through repository migration. The updateGitForPullRequest function passes a migration source's pull-request remote directly to git fetch without an option terminator, so Git treats a crafted remote as command-bearing syntax. Reachability requires an account allowed to create and migrate repositories, and injected commands run with the Gitea service's privileges.
