System crash via unchecked encoder allocation
Published Sep 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
NULL-pointer dereference in Linux Kernel 5.16-rc6 and earlier allows local users to crash a system during vidtv S302M encoder setup. The encoder initializer uses the buffer returned by vzalloc without checking for allocation failure and omits buffer cleanup if later context allocation fails. The optional media test-driver configuration must include vidtv, and allocation failure can terminate kernel operation without exposing or altering data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
