CVE-2022-30772

Kernel memory overwrite via unchecked SMBIOS address

Published Nov 15, 2022 · Updated Apr 30, 2025

Out-of-bounds write in PnpSmm in Insyde Kernel allows local users to overwrite SMRAM or OS kernel memory through a crafted address. PnpSmm function 0x52 accepts an address and size for an SMBIOS table write without constraining the destination to the intended buffer. Administrative privileges and local code execution are required; a successful write corrupts protected firmware or kernel memory and can compromise integrity or interrupt the system.
