Process crash via unbounded Glob recursion
Published Aug 9, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Uncontrolled recursion in Go standard library path/filepath before 1.17.12 or 1.18.0 through 1.18.3 allows attackers to crash processes. Glob recursively processes each directory prefix from an input pattern without limiting recursion depth, so millions of separators exhaust the call stack. Reachability requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled path patterns to Glob; the resulting panic terminates that process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=0 <1.17.12
