Password guessing via miscounted failed logins
Published May 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Incorrect calculation in Moodle LMS allows remote attackers to bypass configured account lockout while repeatedly guessing passwords. The failed-login accounting logic miscounts authentication failures, although the public advisory does not disclose the responsible condition or function. Exposure requires account lockout to be enabled; the flaw permits continued password guessing but does not itself disclose credentials or authenticate a session.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=Affects : 4.0, 3.11 to 3.11.6, 3.10 to 3.10.10, 3.9 to 3.9.13 and earlier unsupported versions
