CVE-2022-30552Public exploit

Device crash via fragmented IP packet overflow

Published Jun 8, 2022 · Updated May 12, 2026

Buffer overflow in U-Boot IP defragmentation in Siemens RUGGEDCOM ROX before 2.17.1 allows attackers to crash devices. In __net_defragment, a fragment payload shorter than eight bytes makes fragment storage overlap hole metadata, which memcpy replaces with attacker-controlled bytes before a second fragment triggers an out-of-bounds write. Exploitation requires CONFIG_IP_DEFRAG and local-network packet delivery during U-Boot networking; the demonstrated consequence is a device crash and reset.
