Downloads policy bypass via malicious extension HTML
Published Sep 26, 2022 · Updated May 22, 2025
Insufficient policy enforcement in Google Chrome before 105.0.5195.52 allows attackers to bypass downloads policy through a crafted HTML page. The Extensions API fails to enforce the configured downloads restriction, but Google has not published the affected function or check. Exploitation requires a user to install a malicious extension and load attacker-controlled HTML; the bounded consequence is an unauthorized download.
