Local data access via plaintext password exposure
Published Jan 31, 2023 · Updated Mar 27, 2025
Improper authentication in Toshiba Storage Security Software 1.2.0.7413 allows local users to access protected drive data. The TosHddsc password-comparison routine loads both the entered and registered passwords into memory in plaintext, where process inspection reveals the credential. A local user able to inspect the management process can reuse that password to read, alter, or delete decrypted data on the attached secure drive.
