Root shell access via hard-coded SSH credentials
Published Aug 31, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Hard-coded credentials in Honeywell ControlEdge PLC and RTU through R151.1 allow remote attackers to obtain a root shell over SSH. The firmware embeds credentials for the root account, permits root login on TCP port 22, and does not force a credential change during commissioning. Network access to the SSH service is sufficient to execute code as root, alter controller configuration, or interrupt service by unspecified means.
