Firmware manipulation via hard-coded bootloader credentials
Published Jul 28, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Hard-coded credentials in Honeywell Experion PKS Safety Manager before R160.1 allow physically proximate attackers to manipulate firmware. At boot, the DCOM-232/485 serial interface exposes the Enea POLO bootloader, whose boot-configuration access accepts credentials embedded in firmware. Access to the serial interface—directly, through a compromised engineering workstation, or through a serial-to-Ethernet gateway—is required, after which the boot process and unauthenticated firmware image can be altered.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Published CVSS scores
CVSS describes severity. EPSS estimates exploitation probability.
Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
No public exploit references are available in this record.
Labels summarize the accepted research assessment. They do not indicate a test against your environment.
