Revoked-domain persistence via inconsistent cache validation
Published Nov 21, 2022 · Updated Apr 30, 2025
Improper DNS resolution in Technitium DNS Server 8.0.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to keep revoked domains resolvable. The recursive resolver inconsistently validates cached delegation data at use time and check time, creating a window that refreshes attacker-controlled NS records before expiration. The attack requires control of the domain's authoritative server and repeated queries before cache expiry; successful use preserves access to expired or taken-down domains.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
