Code execution via crafted AV1 media
Published Jun 15, 2022 · Updated Jan 2, 2025
Remote code execution in Microsoft AV1 Video Extension before 1.1.51091.0 allows attackers to execute code through a crafted media file. Microsoft has not published the affected decoder routine or the unsafe operation performed while processing AV1 input. Exploitation requires user interaction to make a Windows application process the crafted file, after which code runs in that application's security context.
