Local code execution via authentication argument injection
Published May 9, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Argument injection in Simba Amazon Athena ODBC Driver before 1.1.17 allows local users to execute arbitrary code during browser authentication. Published records state that the browser-authentication component fails to neutralize argument delimiters in attacker-controlled input, but do not identify the receiving command or function. Exploitation requires a local low-privileged account and runs attacker-selected code with the driver's user permissions.
