Browser spoofing via unchecked named-popup reuse
Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
UI spoofing in Mozilla Firefox before 100, Firefox ESR before 91.9, and Thunderbird before 91.9 lets remote attackers hide fullscreen warnings. A site reopens a named popup after fullscreen consumes transient user activation; Firefox reuses it without checking activation, allowing it to cover the notification. Exploitation requires attacker-controlled content and two user clicks; Mozilla reproduced the behavior on Windows and Linux but not macOS.
