SYSTEM code execution via self-signed update package
Published Sep 19, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper certificate validation in Fabasoft Cloud Enterprise Client 22.4.0043 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. The SYSTEM-level FabasoftCloudUS.exe update service accepts an attacker-written MSI from C:\ProgramData\fabasoft.plugin when a self-signed certificate merely copies Fabasoft certificate fields. A low-privileged Windows account with write access to that directory can install and run arbitrary software with full local privileges.
