Authentication bypass via noncanonical certificate-name comparison
Published Jun 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper authentication in OPC UA .NET Standard Stack 1.4.368.53 and earlier allows remote attackers to connect as untrusted peers. Certificate validation compares X.500 distinguished names noncanonically, allowing a crafted certificate with reordered subject fields to match a trusted identity. The bypass affects Windows and macOS applications and requires certificate-authority trust settings that permit the crafted peer certificate.
