CVE-2022-29850Network attack vector

Post-compromise persistence via configuration-file modification

Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper input validation in Lexmark printer firmware through .081.013 allows attackers to preserve device compromise across reboots. Modified internal configuration files remain effective after reboot even though executable firmware resides in an integrity-checked, read-only filesystem. The device must already be compromised with configuration-file write access; the flaw preserves a backdoor but provides no initial access.
